One standard used for testing of parking brake friction material is based upon the
Conti Teves specification ATE N 543 27 00. Testing as per the latest requirement
program A for QC testing is possible on the KRAUSS friction tester type RWS100B
using the option HRW. The static friction is measured at increasing and decreasing
temperatures up to 400°C.

Testing duration is approx. 2:10 hours

News18-Static Friction Test Conti Teves Version B

In November 2012 the new Conti Teves specification ATE N 543 27 00 has been issued.
The static friction in program B for R&D testing is measured at increasing and decreasing
temperatures in both clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) sense of operation
up to 500°C.

Testing duration is approx. 2:20 hours

Krauss has now applied this test standard on the QC friction tester type RWS100B using
option HRW with CW/CCW.

Another standard used for testing of parking brake friction material is based upon the
TRW specification S-18610200. It represents a static friction QC-short test and should
be run on a dyno. Krauss has also applied this test on the QC friction tester type RWS100B using
option HRW with CW/CCW. The static friction is measured after a certain soaking time at 500°C
as a single value in both clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) sense of operation.

Testing duration is approx. 45 min

1. Test setup / brake for development of procedure
Brake used : FNc-38 from Conti Teves
Since we have no project specific information for this kind of brake, test speeds as follows has been choosen :
300 / min - 330 / min - 360 / min
As 100% test torque we set 100 Nm. This created the temperature profile together with the braking / intervall
times as given in the TRW test spec.

2. Test procedure
The procedure has been created using the automation system RWINNT software Ver. 098 Beta

3. Running of the test
The test has been logged in a text file reporting the timeline for the test duration. Two tests have been run.
One test took 44 min, the other test took 48 min.

4. Evaluation
As specified by TRW, only one static friction value has been evaluated after having soaked the
material al 500°C

5. Graphics
The layout of the test report presented has been set up using the powerful graphic editor and layout tool in
the software RWINNT. Datalogging is only done during brake activation, but not during the cooling sections
nor at the brake pause (or interval time).

6. Time of implementation of the test
The implementation took me approx. 3 days for setting up the procedure, adopting it to the brake and machine
and running two tests. Not included in this period of time was the design and making of the brake adaptors to
fit it on the machien for testing.
